De L De Provence - Brignoles

Happening into Brignoles on a sunny Sunday at lunchtime in October, we found that everything seemed to be shut, except we found that Le Provençal was open and we were fortunate to be allowed the last table for lunch! Despite a slightly unprepossessing exterior and troubled staff, as the wifi and phones had not been mended since the recent intempéries, we were given a warm welcome and the food was very good. The special of the day was Daube de Poulpe in red wine served with Camargue rice we had it and it was delicious Provençal food, beautifully served and unpretentiously good. As we were driving we were unable to have more than a small glass of house red wine, but the local wine list was good. This restaurant is charming the staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the menu offers local Provençal fare at very reasonable prices. Fortunately we had our cheque book with us to pay, as without WIFI the carte bleu machines weren’t working. Merci beaucoup.

Lovely and reasonably pticed menu du jour meal at this outdoor terrace. A perfect half way house between Nice and Arles. Great choice of local wines available. The daughter of the house has been a sommelier in London and Paris (Ducasse) and really knows her stuff.

Installés ce soir-là à l'hôtel et ayant lu les bons commentaires du restaurant, nous avons décidé de ne pas chercher plus loin et nous avons traversé la rue pour nous installer à sa terrasse. Nous avons été très bien accueillis par le patron, sa fille qui nous a placés et la patronne. Nous avons pris en entrée 2 soupes de poissons maison. Délicieuse avec sa rouille, son fromage râpé et ses croûtons accompagnés de la gousse d'ail pour les frotter... Puis une daube au vin blanc pour moi, généreusement servie et très goûteuse. Mon épouse a pris de l'aioli. En dessert, j'ai découvert le Fontainebleau, lui aussi fait maison comme il se doit. Une très bonne soirée autour d'un bon repas avec des gérants très agréables... Nous n'aurons pas à chercher où aller lorsque nous reviendrons à Brignoles !
