True Southern-style cuisine can be hard to come by in Montana, but this restaurant definitely satisfies that craving. The salad was also very fresh, with a variety of toppings for those seeking a lighter option. Additionally, Roost offers shredded rotisserie chicken as an alternative to fried chicken.
Roost roasted chicken was quite enjoyable, and the kids especially loved it. While it may not be my all-time favorite roasted chicken, I wouldn't think twice about returning. I tried the sweet heat flavor, and it was quite tasty. The location and decor were impressive, creating a nice atmosphere. I just wish I could have sampled all the different sauces available.
Sadly, the rest of the dishes we ordered were bland and unexciting. The poppers were lacking in flavor, while the fried okra as a side wasn't the best, and the grits could have used more seasoning. The bacon was the highlight of the meal. The sweet heat sauce was disappointing—thin and watery, and definitely not worth the extra charge. The honey mustard had too strong a taste of mustard and was overwhelming. To add to our frustration, they forgot to include an item in my order, and we had to flag someone down to rectify it. I’m not sure I can trust Guy’s recommendations for restaurants after this experience.
Do you have the chicken and waffles? Sweet heat? Taste. Chicken was absolutely phenomenal and I was filled at the end of the meal. A little spicy with a good sweetness and super juicy. Also a side of macaroni and cheese and biscuits. The macaroni was good, but nothing extraordinary. The cookies were on the blowing side, but make a great vehicle for filling juices. Overall would recommend!
I was excited to try this place after reading all the great reviews. I shouldn't have put my hopes up so high. The staff was nice, I'll give them that. Cleanliness was ok at best. The staff did go around cleaning tables but I saw customers washing their hands at the drink station. KID'S MEAL: Caprisun, chicken nuggets and like 8 french fries. Leaves your kiddo wanting more. 2 PIECE CHICKEN MEAL: Chicken was cooked well, but unfortunately it lacked in flavor. You could tell seasoning was somewhere in the vicinity while it was being cooked and the chicken caught some of it. The biscuits were white, stuck to the roof of your mouth, and they tasted like tap water. Im not sure how that happens, but they were bland. Undercooked? Anyway. The mac and cheese was ok, though it also lacked in flavor but was rescued by the bacon bits and green onions that are served with it. The mashed potatoes are good if you just like the taste of pepper with a hint of potatoes. Maybe I'll give it another shot one day. But for now, KFC has a better rating based off of this experience.
