Dalhousie makes a great initial impression, but it fades quickly. The service is well below what you might expect. There is no polish or finesse. I think they imported a McDonalds Team. The dungeon restaurant is fun, no WiFi of course, but the suits of army are both filthy and rusty. The food is good but there is something missing. Might have something to go with it being served on brown earthenware (no pop! . To be honest, I thought the food was better at Wagamamas and certainly less expensive. The rest of the castle can be described as fading glory, not enough furniture, a feeling of mend and make do. It needs more capital spent on it to bring it upto full potential.
Great food, great atmosphere, great customer service! Make sure you book a table. The wine was delicious too!
The food was ok, the selection a bit poor, but the staff was very good. Particularly one lady who was very polite and sociable, she told us some stories about the castle and how to find a hidden passage! Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £30–40 Food: 3 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3
We live locally and tend to eat here as a special treat. Nice to see the orangery has had a fresh coat of paint and chairs have been newly upholstered as it was a bit tired looking last time we visited. Not sure about the plastic orange plants though. The menu has changed and felt it was a tad pub grub also kids portion was rediculously large especially for the three year old we had with us. Our order took far too long to appear which was strange as only two other couples dining. Lots of young staff who spent a great deal of time looking bored as they had nothing to do. It was a very hot day when we visited and the restaurant was unbearably hot. They really need to invest in some blinds. There was no windows or doors open. Overall very disappointing visit.
