Be warned people: I am an understanding and patient person. Usually. Bill's restaurant and that frustrated waitress Kim would try the patience of a saint! Long story short. Their sign says open till 6:00. They were open till 2:00 that Wed, but we didn't know that. Kim doesn't tell us but instead seats at 1:40. She then at 2:00 comes up to our table and says ,and I'm quoting her, I have to take your order now. We're closed, and the chef will be mad at me. Really? You get the picture. Not only is it an outdated, weirdly configured, not clean and poorly run cafe, the one thing I did order, iced tea, was made with tap water and had a horrible aftertaste. I am genuinely warning people who are on vacation to relax, who want good service and decent food. Please do not go to this place. You will not have a good experience. Bill's doesn't have a long time to be in business. Waitress Kim, the cook and the other waitress whose name I don't know are frustrated, overworked and seem to be on a sinking ship, but new customers like us are walking into the Titanic and don't know it. If u still want to try Bill's out, my advice is to put your life jackets on and get ready to tread water for a long time!
We weren't greeted right away when we walked in but were seated fairly quickly. It didn't seem understaffed but our waitress did have a lot going on and was running all over the place. She was still super nice and friendly though, as were the rest of the staff. We had a slightly larger group (8) and miscounted how many of us wanted coffee, so when the drinks came out we asked for one more. We had to ask multiple times and it took a while to get that last cup. The food for us understandably took a while to come out but kept coming randomly. A few of us had completely finished eating before the last person ever got their food. I think most restaurants will wait to bring it out until everyone has at least one portion of their meal. One of us had to ask for their toast because it never came, and another asked for ketchup that he never ended up receiving. I had a cinnamon roll and biscuits and gravy. Both were delicious! The gravy doesn't have any sausages in it and I liked that better. The breakfast burrito was also huge and another thing I'd recommend getting. I would come back here but maybe on a less busy day, even though they didn't seem that busy..
I realize many restaurants have staffing shortages but it can't be too difficult for passing employees to at least say hello to people waiting to be seating. 15 minutes with nothing. Visible open tables. This used to be a go to for breakfast. Now I know why there was no line on a Sunday morning.
During my short visit to Lake Arrowhead, I found that there aren't many great dining choices, but Bill's Villager stands out as one of the better spots for breakfast or lunch. There's plenty of parking available in the lot next to the building. The restaurant offers more indoor seating than it appears from the outside. While they were understaffed—something many restaurants are facing these days—my only real issue was the nearly $20 I spent on a breakfast burrito and coffee. The burrito was enormous and delicious, but I’m just not accustomed to paying that much for a breakfast burrito.
