The best club house sandwich I have had in a long time The portions were big and I was overjoyed with the flavor and texture When we ever go back to this area this will certainly be on our must stop at restaurant
When I was a kid in the 1970s, we would get off the freeway at Bliss when we were on they way to Twin Falls or Pocatello and stop at the Oxbow Cafe. The big-traffic days for Bliss were long gone; the old highway made travelers go through the small Gooding County town, but the Oxbow of the 1970s still attracted a good clientele. Over the years, the restaurant lost customers and its reputation went downhill. Several ownership changes didn't help, either. Coming back from camping at the City of Rocks, Kristy and I decided to stop at the Oxbow, now a diner. Neither of us had been there in decades. I saw the chicken-fried steak on the menu, a restaurant dish I'm a sucker for. But right below was listed a chicken-fried pork. That's interesting, I said to myself. And it knocked the chicken-fried steak right off my order. Two thinly-pounded pieces of pork were breaded and fried, topped with white gravy (brown gravy on any chicken-fried piece of meat is an abomination). They offered it, but white gravy is where it's at. The pork came with herbed corn and a baked potato, plus a salad. It all was good and filling. Kristy had a breakfast meal with French toast that was good, too. Service was friendly. Although there was a sign on the door asking customers to be patient with slow service because of the coronavirus pandemic, our waitress got everything to us in a timely manner besides being busy on an early Sunday evening.
This establishment gets high rating just for mere fact that they are open! Bliss is a small town of about 300 residents. It's located just about a quarter of a mile off of highway 84 entrance/exit. From the looks of it, most of the businesses, which is about two are three, are closed for good, with the exception of the Sinclair station, right off the highway. You have to make the effort to go here if you don't live in the area. Now I have to admit my food was just okay. I ordered the club sandwich and the big positive is they made it with two slices of bread, instead of three. Most of the time when I get a club, I'm pulling out that third piece of bread. Anyway, the meat and bacon were flavorful and abundant. The negative would be the mayonnaise was a bit too much. If I came back I would tell them light on the mayonnaise. Now for the fries; they, in my opinion, were under cooked. However, they were seasoned well and the fry sauce was really good. All of my negatives can be easily corrected. The quality of the food was excellent, just the execution needed small tweaks. The charm and service of this place gets my high rating. My husband and I love these type of small town restaurants. There's just something about them that makes life seem so sweet and normal and the fact that we could have a nice meal and see the smiling faces of all the wait staff was just nice ending to our vacation.
Yummy!!! I had Buffalo chicken mac and I would do it again. Small dinner but looks and feels great
