La Paz Restaurant - Birmingham

This was my 3rd-4th time going to La Paz It's always been an over rated and over priced Mexican joint in my eyes until this most recent visit.

Anyone from B'ham can tell u how competitive Mexican/Tex-Mex places can be around here.

I don't know why I order anything besides the cheese dip and chicken quesadilla.

I am a native New Mexican. It is hard for me to find good Mexican food in Alabama. La Paz is good. During Covid we have very much appreciated their outdoor tables. The staff is always friendly. Their tamales are small but delicious and I love that they offer vegetarian options. The chiles in the rellenos are way too mild. If I could change one thing, it would be to offer green chile sauce with all plates. And sopaipillas are puffy breads served with dinner. Not a crisp cinnamon dessert.

Super cute restaurant. I didn’t have the opportunity to enjoy the large bar area but my dinner was excellent. I had the fish tacos and appreciated that they were willing to sub corn tortillas instead of flour for me and let me have one grilled and one fried so I didn’t even have to choose.
