I've been dining at Magdalena's almost every weekend for the past year, and I can't think of a better way to start my Saturday morning than enjoying a gluten-free buckwheat crepe before heading to Boulevard Park! The waitstaff is incredibly friendly, and they've gotten to know me well enough that they start brewing my 16 oz mocha as soon as I walk in. This place has become my favorite breakfast spot in Bellingham! During my first visit, the waitresses informed me that while they serve traditional crepes in the same kitchen, they can't guarantee that the crepes are completely gluten-free. As someone with celiac disease who is highly sensitive to contamination, I was cautious but have never encountered any issues. I wholeheartedly recommend their buckwheat crepes!
Magdelena's is a hidden gem among the restaurants in Whatcom County. They serve delicious crepes and the best soup you'll ever taste, made fresh every day. The staff is friendly, and the chef/owner is truly wonderful!
Magdalena learned to make Crepes in Brittany and her crepes are the best I have had in the US (excluding Café Triskell in NYC, but Patrice is very talented Breton chef, so not fair competition... and even compared to many places in France. Thin, tasty and delicious. I had buckwheat crepe with baked pork, mushrooms and horseradish, so definitely not traditionally Breton, but it was very creative and delicious. The lemon sugar sweet crepe looked very beautiful and was delicious too. I will come back again and I highly recommend this place.
We dropped in for a light meal before our late dinner. Our group enjoyed a sweet crepe, a savory crepe, a croque madame, and a sandwich. The service was fantastic, and the food was absolutely delicious. Everyone gave it high fives and thumbs up!
