After a long day of exploring and jet lag, we found the Brigade thanks to Yelp down the block from our hotel. They recently went thru a rebranding, and revamped their menu (lucky us)! The space itself is beautiful decorated some trendy wall paper paired with warm wood tones. Its inviting, cozy, has a very pretty bar. We were seated in the main dining room where the manager explained to us that the Brigade is a social enterprise. Meaning, they help to employ and educate members of the homeless community in London so that they can lift themselves out of poverty and enter into the food/bev industry. Great food with a great cause, SIGN ME UP! On to the food it was VERY good. We ordered two local beers. I loved mine, it was a mead style that wasn't too sweet, but perfect to wash down all the noms. We started with sourdough bread. This was perfectly toasted and paired with butter topped with crystalized salt. YUM. We also had roasted bone marrow and the cornish rump of beef. The bone marrow was good but it was the beef that really blew me away. Brigade uses local London ingredients and this beef was no exception. It was perfectly cooked to rare and I enjoyed every bite. We also got a side of chips, because carbs are life. These chips were SO GOOD. Admittedly, we came to Brigade because we saw a photo on Yelp with fish and chips, which they no longer serve. So happy we ended up here to explore the menu, as a meal filled with carbs and beef is always on my favorites list, and it was no different here. Service was super friendly, and we ended up getting a discount on the bill because they had a promotion going on in November. Double win!
Nice spot for a quiet breakfast and a pot of tea. Seats by the window are great for people watching. The avocado toast comes on a good slice of sourdough, topped with poached eggs and sriracha. Eggs were perfectly cooked and had the prettiest orange yolks. Recommend.
TLDR: Great grub for a great cause! ____ Came in expecting fish and chips. Had chips (fries) but no fish. They had actully revamped thier concept a few weeks before I was in. Still had a great meal. Fresh made sour dough served with whipped butter that's been salted. It was so good! Bone marrow Delicate. Rich. Really goo. Chips skin on. So good. Rump Super tender. Tasty. A nice hearty dish. All of the food was excellent and the service was as well. Really nice decor and an open kitchen. The coolest part is that they support homeless folks in London. They educate and hire homeless people to help get them in a better situation. Loved the cause behind this restaurant! A certain percent of the profits goes to this program. Pretty cool.
I wanted to like this place more, but unfortunately it didn't work for me. We came as a group of 10 people, and had a room in the back for privacy. The ambience was great, and service was friendly. Unfortunately service wasn't optimal multiple dishes were brought out that weren't ordered by our group, therefore leaving some people without the meals they ordered. That resulted in some people having to wait for their dishes. This happened throughout the meal appetizers, main course, and even coffee. The food was good, but not great. The Burrata small plate was truly excellent I loved it. Unfortunately, I found the cornish rump to be fatty/chewy, and slightly under cooked. Others had the fish, and were disappointed with the number of bones present in the dish.
