I will say the parking situation is a bit stressful and if you park across the street, it is quite dangerous crossing the road. Very clean establishment.
We got there around 2 pm, still in time for the lunch specials, and the place was empty! We sat at the bar because we like to watch the sushi chef work, but with only three of us and only two ordering sushi, there wasn't much of a show. We got katsu, seaweed salad, tempura, and sushi. The chicken katsu was right on the edge of being overcooked. The seaweed salad was mostly shredded cucumber, so the seaweed flavor was quite diluted. The tempura was good and the sushi was just okay, nothing special at all. Service was fine and the place was clean but we've had better sushi so we won't be back.
Wow! I used to drive all the way to Fells for sushi before discovering this place last Saturday. If you're a fan of cozy, small sushi restaurants, this is the spot for you. After Man vs Pho vacated the space, this little gem emerged in its place post-COVID. The sushi rolls are fantastic, with a wide selection to choose from, and the lunch combos are quite affordable. I did have a somewhat awkward experience ordering, as it was my first time there and asking about drinks, placing my order, and requesting soy sauce felt a bit different. But now I've got the hang of it! I haven't explored all the sushi options yet, but I'm really excited to make this my new local go-to. The fact that it's within walking distance and has friendly staff makes Avenue Sushi a charming spot for a casual sushi date.
Disappointed! I placed a carryout order online with a scheduled pick up of an hour later. We live across the street and typically order sushi 1-2 times a week, so while this was our first order, I was hoping this would be be a new favorite. I'm torn on giving this review 2 v. 3 stars. The Good: Food was ready and brought out curbside promptly. Everything was packaged beautifully and staff was upbeat and courteous. The beef was high quality and lean. The food presentation was good. Sushi rolls were large. Delicious veggies in the bibimbop. Prices seem fair for the quality and portions. The bad: THE SALT!!!! The veggies in all the veggie rolls were incredibly salty, but the mushrooms must have absorbed the most salt as the shitake rolls were barely edible because of how salty they were. The beef in the bibimbop also was too salty too and was a much smaller portion than I expected, even for the $15 price.
This is the only restaurant I order sushi from in the city because it’s consistently fantastic! I often find myself getting ramen and the tuna appetizer as well, since I'm torn between choices; they’re all so delicious and perfectly spicy!
