フィードバックを提供するIs it hyperbole to call this sacred dining? I think not. It is clear that the charming chef Otto has studied his craft as a monk might study a holy text. Rice his prayer, fish his sacrament, and sake his blessed water. The dinner is pricey but once in a lifetime kind of dinner. Melt in your mouth sushi with subtle notes of complex and delicious flavors. Don't miss out on this experience... The chef is sadly leaving for Chicago in August and will charge nearly double there.
The meal was beautifully crafted by Chef Sarah, who clearly possesses both skill and a passion for her art. However, with just her and one assistant preparing everything on the spot, the meal took 2.5 hours to complete around 15 pieces of nigiri and small plates, which felt a bit slow for my liking. Most of that time was spent listening to Chef Sarah. While I appreciated the technical insights she shared, I could have done without the lengthy social commentary; 2.5 hours is quite a stretch to engage with someone unless they have an extraordinary presence. Let me emphasize once more that the food was exceptional. If you are a sushi purist seeking world-class sushi, expertly prepared, this is definitely the place for you. However, if you’re looking for a cozy evening with your partner, there are certainly other sushi spots in Austin to explore.
Cozy atmosphere and great company. Chef Sarah consistently provides an exceptional experience! Worth every penny!
We dined at Grandmakase, a small sushi counter that seats only eight, providing an intimate culinary experience with Otto. It's perfect for sharing a meal with a friend or two. This is the most authentic sushi experience I've encountered in Austin—and quite rare in the entire USA. There are no rolls on the menu here. Instead, wasabi root is freshly grated on a sharkskin grater right in front of you, showcasing the restaurant's commitment to tradition. The focus on the fish is impressive, and Otto shares insights about its origins, giving us a deeper understanding of its quality and sourcing. This was a highlight for us. It's a place where you can truly savor each bite and appreciate the flavors on offer. I highly recommend it!
Hands down, best sushi experience in Austin
