Their salad dressings are excellent, and we’ve tried nearly all of their desserts over time—they're all fantastic! This place comes highly recommended by my primary care physician. Each meal feels like a delightful experience. If I had the resources, I’d eat here every day! I only wish they would open a location in North Austin. I do not love the fixed menu and it is always delicious. but best is to know that I ate something really healthier.
We visited Casa de Luz twice during our trip to Austin. Living in Dallas, we really wish we had a Casa de Luz here! Both lunch and dinner were absolutely delicious!
Having grown up in New Orleans, I enjoyed classics like gumbo, jambalaya, and crawfish étouffée in a city known for its culinary scene—though I say that with a hint of sarcasm. It wasn't until I moved to Austin, during my second year of vegetarianism, that my culinary journey truly transformed. The first Whole Foods store opened just a twenty-minute walk from the UT Co-op where I lived, and my perspective on animal products began to shift dramatically. I discovered Casa de Luz in the late '90s and became a regular, dining there daily for several years. After taking around 100 yoga classes at the nearby community center, I would often treat myself to lunch or dinner at Casa. Many of the chefs there were trained by seasoned masters of gourmet vegan cooking, representing a diverse mix of backgrounds. I later encountered some of those talented chefs in upscale restaurants in Manhattan and L.A., where they continued to impress with their culinary skills. I hold this place close to my heart and am grateful to the remarkable individuals who founded and nurtured the restaurant, as well as the associated school and progressive community center. They truly deserve your love and support, just as they have mine. My parents still reside near Austin, and I plan to dine there as often as possible during my visit in November/December. Long live Casa de Luz! (and Hook 'em Horns!)
We visited and had lunch. It was absolutely amazing and we can not say enough! Our souls were fed and our minds blown. Wish we had something like this back home in Portland! Amazing concept and food! Bought the cookbook and hope to recreate some of these flavors! Thank you!
