Stamatis - Astoria

I had a late-night dinner and ordered the grilled octopus and stuffed cabbage. Both dishes were delicious—light yet full of flavor. The staff was friendly, and I also enjoyed the complimentary bread and dessert, which were quite good!

The food is very good, and the server (or owner?) was friendly as well. However, I have to take away one or two stars because they allow outdoor diners to smoke cigarettes at their tables. I've visited a couple of times, and it's always the same situation. On this particular visit, a whole table of people was lighting up multiple times during my meal, and even from a distance, I had to endure the smell the entire time. There's a reason smoking is prohibited in NY... it's really not acceptable.

This restaurant was recommended by a local, so we decided to have dinner here during our visit to Astoria. It turned out to be the highlight of our entire trip to New York! The staff was warm and welcoming, and the food was simply incredible. We really enjoyed the atmosphere as well. We will definitely return on our next visit to New York!

This area is known for its Greek community, eaters, and cafes. Super walkableneighborhood and there are two main busy streets we have found After a bit of wandering, we wanted outdoor seating and foundStamatis on the Google map with great reviews. I do have to say, I felt a bit out of place going into this restaurant as we werethe only Asians ????????or even anyone other than Greek That's how legit this place was! The server was really nice and helpedus navigate through their huge menu, recommended a few items: ????Grilled octopus ????Fresh sea bass ????Saganaki (friedcheese) ????chicken souvlaki platter with dandelions ????Moussaka (egg plant, ground beef, onions, feta, scallions withbesamel cream) I think overall my favorite was the seafood (as usual). Made light with olive oil and herbs, not too heavy. Thefried cheese was surprisingly good as it was recommended by the water. Crispy in the outside, melty inside. Thin cut , to beeaten with this red tomato ???? paste Instead of the moussaka we were going to order the Nest. It had a beef stew in it butthey ran out of that item. The moussaka was like your hearty lasagna without all the carbs . The eggplants and beef togethermakes the textures consistent but includes the earthy taste of eggplants. I'm sure they smoked or grilled them ahead of timetoo All in all a great meal! Hope you can wander in there. theres a few really good spots @midwestmunching
