El Mofongo - Arlington

We have been looking for a place like this forever! It was so good, so comforting. We sampled the beef platter, beans and rice, tostones, rellenos de papa and the guava pastries for dessert. Even if you don't know what it all is, order it and leave full and content! Service: Dine in

Zero stars. Yeah I knew I got there just before closing, at 7:50. I called on my way to try and place my Togo order but they didn't answer. When I got there there were other patrons in the restaurant. She told me they were closed until she heard my pronunciation. Then she was gonna serve me. SMH. The atmosphere is poor period, barely four walls and no feel to it. Service terrible. If you don't want to serve people at 7:50 then close at 7:30.

Warning to all potential customers, I did not have high expectations for authentic Island food, but I at least expected something edible. This is absolutely unacceptable, even for Texas. To start, the person at the service counter was very nice, earning four stars. However, when I asked about the menu, she could not provide accurate answers. For example, when I inquired about the beans, she said they only had kidney beans. When I asked about lechon/pernil, she mistakenly claimed it was a Mexican dish when it is actually carnitas. The food I received had pink beans, not kidney beans, and the pork chops were terrible - they seemed old and frozen, then defrosted, dried out, and deep-fried. They were so tough that they were difficult to cut and not even edible. The rice I ordered, gandules, was also disappointing - it lacked traditional seasonings, flavor, and included no ham. It was dried out and reminded me of reheated instant rice that was several days old. I regret spending $27 on this meal that was a total waste of money. They did not offer any discount or replacement, so all the food ended up in the trash. I will never return to this restaurant again.
