A village bar. Not posh, just original Spanish. Full of local characters, like The Poet, who comes in of a lunchtime and declaims. Loudly. The chef, is a bit eccentric. Has been known to walk into the bar and throw a handfull of uncooked leeks under the lid of the wood burner, then distribute them to all present. Now then. Maria, la jefa-the boss. Classic Andalucian Duena you might think, but no. She´s from Barcelona! Great hostess, who does all she can to make to feel welcome. The bar has a good selection of tapas, which changes daily. If you don´r like what´s there, Tough. This is the Peoples Republic of La Cinta where Spanish Law does not apply. If there is even a hint of the Policia Local turning up, cigarettes are swiftly put out, doors and windows are opened and someone rushes round to brush up the butts on the floor. Ahhh, those were the days. It is great bar, and gives you a taste of the REAL Spain
I had one of the worst meals ever in Spain today. The chips were brown from whatever they were cooked in and the plate had half a cup of oil swimming in it. It took 6 serviettes to mop up the puddle! Overpriced at €8.50 for one course without a drink or bread! Service not friendly at all. We had Menu Del Dia at a restaurant overlooking the sea in Aguillaa last week for €8 3 courses, bread, drink and coffee fantastic! We had intended to eat at El Castillo but found it closed.
We go here for lunch often, the tapas is one of the best in the area, its quite small, but they are very friendly and try hard at speaking english, reccomended for a nice lunch
Gran, gran, buena comida, y muy bueno, faustino es una grieta
