Canton House Restaurant - Amherstburg

The owners retired and now there are only two spots in Amherstburg for Chinese Food - The Ruby King, which has been in town forever and nobody seems to go there - and the Golden Gate Chinese Food restaurant which is under new management and has good food.

The staff have always been friendly to me, my family and I enjoy their food, and the 5% off for cash is a nice touch. We often get the Dinner for Two or Dinner for Three and feel the portions are reasonable. Generally get takeout from this place every couple of months.

Ignore the "when did you travel?" question although I had to fill it in. I'm a resident. Canton House was the best in town until Golden Gate (in the plaza where Subway is) came a couple of years ago. Canton House has take out only, and the menu is pleasant, but I wish it had more variety. The spring rolls are very good, as is the Chicken Soo Gai. But I haven't been back as I'm addicted to the lunch buffet at Golden Gate, sorry.

We ordered from here years ago, and found it disgusting. Recently heard from a friend it was really good, so we decided to give it another try. Our food was very expensive, and small portions. Everything tasted funny, even down to the sauce for the sweet and sour chicken. The "gravy" for the chicken soo gui was white and gross. Everything was extremely greasy.We will not be ordering from here again.

Absolutely disgusting, sechuan tasted bland, beef was chewy and had no flavor, i was so disappointed, you couldnt pay me to eat there ever again.
