Staff are also good and really helpful so see you next year if we come to Keswick.
Busy, busy pub, shame it's not twice the size. We visited the pub on a couple of occasions, the first time it was packed and looked like it would be a long wait for a table so we left and went elsewhere. We returned the following night but a little bit earlier, it was still very busy and all the tables were taken. We decided to have a drink ad wait for a table, which was about 15 minutes. SERVICE: Very polite and friendly staff who were all very busy but still engaged with the customers. Very efficient. FOOD: We ordered the Goulash and Pie. Both were very tasty and enjoyable, we would order the same again. A staff member checked to make sure that everything was ok a few minutes after receiving our meals. DRINKS: Good choice of beers (ales) and spirits. ATMOSPHERE: Lovely vibe, the place is alive with chatting and plenty of friendly dogs. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and look forward to visiting again.
We called in after a days walking having had the pub recommended by friends and the landlady of our BnB. The atmosphere and beer selection was amazing. Well kept Guinness and a very smooth Borrowdale bitter. However; the Goulash was very poor, having returned earlier this year from Hungary, we were so disappointed, The potatoes were old/ had that heated up taste. Sauce was far to acidic- all tomatoes and no paprika. Two tinned button mushrooms. Loads of dry meat. Small tender dumpling… best part of it… but very small. and one thin slice of barely toasted garlic bread. People on the next table were equally unimpressed with their Hunters chicken … how can any pub claim to serve great food when producing frozen chips! I would never eat there again, but would certainly drink there.
We had to queue 10 minutes before opening time but we weren't disappointed! The family all ate well and enjoyed what was served. Nearly 16 years since eating my last goulash and tasted as good as I remember.
Have been coming to this pub for years and it never disappoints. Brilliant atmosphere, lots of friendly customers with their lovely dogs. The staff are always efficient and really welcoming. Would wholeheartedly recommend the goulash if you are passing by, it is a fantastic dish to have on a cold day after a muddy walk.
