O Da Casa - Alcobaca

Have dined here several times but today it was a disappointment. I had booked a birthday lunch for my wife by way of celebration. Intially greeting was well accepted snd our table was in a good position. Two starters were ok. Cold meat platter proved to be just all right but the so called presunto turned out to be sliced gammon. In a country like Portugal famous for presunto it was a poor offering. Ordered crab for myself and salmon for my wife the maincourse . My crab was delivered and after several prompts, 20 mins wait my wife’s salmon appeared. My crab was poor quality and like plastic with little taste. At €66 it was daylight robbery!! That was just the crab by the way! I pointed this out to the waiter and he more or less shrugged and said” frozen!”. The red wine I chose should have been more delicately handled as his tossing turning flamboyance as he opened it broke the cork stirred up all the sediment which ended up in our glasses. So Train your staff how to handle expensive wine properly !! If a customer does not like his food, ask why and offer to make amends ! Deliver main courses together! The maitre D just said on my further complaint , he would tell his ‘boss’. On the strength of this visit, I am afraid I cannot in all honesty recommend anyone to go there as service and food are inconsistent . Sometimes good , sometimes bad. It was a lovely October day spoiled by mediocre food, ill delivered wine and seemingly uncaring staff. Not happy Probably wont be back.

I ordered the grilled Octopus and when it arrived it was inedible; very tough and hard to eat. Having sent it back I was offered to choose another item off the menu. I chose prawns and curry. I can only guess they rushed the order through as it wasn’t the best meal I had; far from it. The starters and my other family members meals were delicious. When the check arrived they had charged us for the inedible Octopus!!!! We did question this and it was deducted. Sao Martinho do Porto has numerous restaurants to choose from so I will visit them all before thinking of returning. BobM

Returned to O da Casa after its refurb and covid restrictions to find that they are every bit as good if not better than before! Service in particular was excellent and the seafood was second to none! Heartily recommend a visit. Three courses for 2 people plus wine plus water was €107. Expensive ? Yes , a bit! Worth it? Definitely YES! The only reason I have not given 5 stars is the ubiquitous, unimaginative , wilted cabbage vegetable accompaniment to otherwise superb food lets it down ! Whilst the chef(s) are masters of seafood , they need more imagination regarding vegetables accompanying main dishes. What about asparagus, mushrooms etc? Maybe get someone working on interesting sides!

Foi uma excelente experiência neste restaurante, comemos um barril com molho de caril e gambas, o barril foi grelhado no ponto e foi bastante macio, derretido na boca, o molho de caril e manga para acompanhar as batatas e as verduras ofereceram um excelente contraste, também comemos massas com pêssegos, entrada de um mexões com molho espanhol bastante fresco e o molho muito bem preparado, para sobremesa sor

Martinho bay, with an excellent view of the sea. We had a magical time here, we will come back for shore. Attention this is an outstanding kitchen, outstanding place, and , great experiences need to be well supported.
