The excellent customer service added to my experience. When I checked in with JetBlue downstairs, the clerk assured me I could gate check my bag, so I wanted to make sure I was quick once I spotted her. I asked the bartender if she could kindly hold my beer behind the bar and handed her my credit card, just in case she thought I was trying to skip out without paying. Though it sounds absurd for just half a beer, you never know! She kindly agreed and was cheerful throughout my time at the bar. I will absolutely continue to eat and drink here whenever I’m at Albany Airport.
This airport wine bar offers a selection of wines that are somewhat overpriced, although you can find a few decent options, including some local choices from Brotherhood. I ordered a 9oz pour of Brotherhood Riesling, which cost just under $15.00 before the tip. The service at the counter was quite fast, but not as quick as the table service, so I decided to order a glass and then sit down in a more comfortable chair before my flight.
I feel like everyone has already said all there is to say about this place (lol). I opted to fly through Albany (was in Saratoga) because it was easier, though a lot more expensive, than getting up here from NYC. When I came through, HVWB was the best option to get a quick drink and a bite to eat. The place was dirty lots of vacated tables and none cleared. The food was horrible. I ordered a cheese plate and all but 1 of my cheeses were incorrect. The bread, everything was laughably bad. But the wine was delicious and the pour was heavy, so 3 stars from me. Grab food somewhere else and just come here for the wine.
Oh the disappointment. Staff of three: waitress, bartender and cook to serve 50+ seats. This staffing level just sets up employees to fail. Is this a cost savings approach? This would have been a great question for the manager except no one was visibly in charge. This business is still here *ONLY* because it is the only bar/food option in the B terminal. It took an hour to get one glass of wine and a greek salad with shrimp. The shrimp were ICE cold. My wine was good and I might have wanted another glass but was never given that option. When I fly through Albany again next month, I will not waste my time. I recommend no one else does either.
