The service was great. A nice casual atmosphere, with a menu that had potential. The fish and chips were meh! The gravy was too salty and the stuffing right out of a box. The crab cakes had not too bad of a flavour, but the texture was dismal. Very one dimensional and very lack lustre. We came, we ate, we had good beer, but we won't be back again. Oh forgot to mention... rather overpriced for what you got. Just another mention that the servers were lovely, now if only the food matched up.
My wife and I visited this establishment for the first time on Saturday June 17th at about 6.30 (prime time) I ordered the Cod tongues and Cheeks but was told they were out of Cheeks so I ordered Fisherman's Brewis ( $17.95) and my wife had the Turkey Pot Pie. The pot pie was cold when she got it so it was sent back. It came back hot but when she got into it there was no turkey. It was sloppy and the turkey had flown the coop. My meal was really no better, just a small bowl of mostly mashed bread and tasteless. My wife had lived in Newfoundland for many years and had eaten this type of food several times. We were not charged for the Pot pie fiasco (thanks). It was a bad experience overall.
Our bartender/ server was so informative about the food as the menu had sooo many great sounding dishes that we will be back a few times to check them out. I started with the clam chowder which was by far the best I have had. I went for a down east style Donair that was very good. My wife really enjoyed her garlic shrimp and bacon Penne pasta. Good draft selection and a decent choice of wines by the glass.
This is my favorite pub because it is in the historic town of Pickering Village. PV has so many beautiful old homes over 100 years old and cemetarys with the original settlers for Pickering and Pickering Village buried here. This new Pub just over one year old is marked by their beautiful RED outdoor furniture in their small outdoor patio. The menu has been revised and enhanced with new pasta dishes as well as the old favourites from Down East. This is such a homey place with awesome waiters who treat you so kindly. It is close to home and the honesty of the servers and their welcoming attitudes make you feel special there. It is like having a pint at home. Great atmostphere, great beer, great food in the heart of historic Pickering Village. What more could you ask for? The lady owner is so nice. She always makes a point of visiting our table and meeting our guests. Love the Atlantic Provinces music which is often playing with jigs and familiar tunes from our childhood days. A comfortable, homey place to come for brunch, lunch, dinner or an evening pint! Special events like Down Home St. Patrick's Day with live music. A small, quaint place to call home...... Love it. My favorite place to BE!
