Policing for the region northeast in view of the continuing backwardness in the region northeast, the necessity of a new and synergetic incentive package was widespread in order to promote the development of industry. To date, two industrial policies have been announced for the entire region northeast. the Northeast Industrial Policy (neip) was announced on 24 December 1997 and after the neip 2007 neip announced a new policy for the promotion of industrial and investment policy in the northeast (no tip). under neiipp 2007, sikkim (industrial policy and promotion department 1997 and 2007) was also included. the neip 1997 tried to give a package of incentives. the main features of this policy are: • expenditure on growth centres (gc) up to 15 mio. rs (as against 10 mio. rs. earlier) would be met by central aid. • the support pattern for integrated infrastructure development centres (iidc) changed from 2:3 between the government indiens (goi) and the small industries development bank ofindia (sidbi) to 4:1. the GOI funds would be in the way of currency.
