There were three elevators serving this tower. Two of the three elevators were broken our entire visit. Seeing as we were on the 23rd floor, that meant the ONE working elevator was packed with people, on the way to our floor and on the way down to the lobby. The majority of the time, the elevator was seriously overloaded and crammed with people. There were people in wheelchairs and walkers who had to use this one elevator packed with up to 15-18 other people. Picture that! This is a serious safety issue. I contacted the manager, who promptly called me, but the situation still exists. According to some hotel employees, this situation has been on-going since May, WHAT? Every day, when making our plans, we had to add extra time in our agenda due to the elevator situation. This is a sad situation, because this hotel's location is excellent for visiting the Freemont street area. If you decide to stay here, call and ask about the elevators before you book it.
Awesome location if you are planning to spend time on Fremont and a quick cab ride to the strip. Hotel was clean, beds were comfy, AC was good. Good rates even for Friday and Saturday, I would stay here again without a doubt, better than any hotel I stayed in on the strip. Elevators seem to have a lot of issues only 1 of three was working while I was there, so the wait for the elevator was sometimes quite long.
Don’t sleep on the Cal! My family is from Hawaii (we live on the mainland) and The Cal has been a long time favorite of ours. It feels like home. The amazing customer service, the upkeep of the hotel, and the overall feeling of relaxation are just a few of the reasons. We are currently visiting and one thing has really stood out this time it’s how CLEAN the hotel and rooms are! I was in the hotel industry for over 20 years and the rooms are VERY CLEAN. I just wonder how they are able to have this type of product when so many other hotels struggle with this. It’s a short drive/Uber to all things on the strip. Which, I like as it keeps me away from the hustle and bustle and offers a great value in clean, comfortable rooms and food. Well done, Sam Boyd and The Cal!
Went on my 2nd and 3rd trip to Vegas and stayed at the Cal, which is always a great place for anyone, especially for the Hawai'i people. Great walking distance to the Fremont Express and other Downtown hotel and casino's. A couple issues I have is the food at Market Street Cafe and one at Aloha Specialties. I did think the quality of food has gone down since my first visit at the Cal. Although, I do understand that everyone was impacted by Covid and had to make tough decisions. However, I do miss the salad bar and it feels like the Ox tail soup tastes more a beef stew and found it odd the veggies and not having that refreshing ginger broth. On my 3rd trip, I've never seen butterfish (Cod) that has BBQ sauce on top of it. That is one of the CRAZIEST things I've heard as a Hawai'i local and asian because it's usually miso marinated butterfish. As for Aloha Specialties on the Mezzanine level at the Cal, the one issue was the spicy grilled chicken. I thought the spice level was unbearable, where I had a hard time finishing the dish. Spice wise for a dish would be something that I would experience a little fear, but just spicy enough where I can enjoy and finish it. Overall, high quality ice cream at Lappert's Ice Cream Shop, friendly staff and dealers for keeping that Aloha vibe day and night, and enjoyed having fun on the casino floor day and night with family and friends.
This was my first time here in Vegas and I would say that this hotel was alright to say the least. Upon entering the hotel, you experience a very intense cigarette smell practically 24/7 on the main casino floor. Coming from Hawaii, it was great to see the hospitality that we got from the staff members and how polite they were every single time. Entering our room, it was quite comfy and inviting. The hotel was well kept and was quite good for the price that we paid for. The bathroom, amenities, and the warm welcome we got was quite nice. Discussing the location, it was about a 10-15 minute drive away from the strip (so please keep this in mind if you are planning to head to the strip). Although, we were just a few minutes away from the world renowned Fremont Street which was an amazing experience in itself. All in all, I had a great experience here and definitely would love to come back!
